Why We Love It
In creating the Troubadours, LSTN's Joe Huff and Bridget Hilton sought to design a great product that would also contribute good to the world. Inspired by a trip through California’s redwood forest, Bridget Hilton created LSTN's line of wood-based headphones as a way to tap into the beautiful aesthetics of this heritage high-end audio material. The housings of each headphone are handcrafted from individual wood pieces reclaimed from furniture and flooring manufacturing, meaning no two pairs are alike.
The headphones are designed and engineered to deliver all of the detail and power of your favorite music in a tasteful and stylish manner. The Troubadour design has a strong nod towards retro with a modern edge. Each earcup is lined with ultra-soft, comfortable cushioning that will keep you enjoying your favorite tunes for long listening sessions. Soundwise, the Troubadours throw a very nice soundstage, open and detailed, and the overall warm sound will please most. For the bass fans out there, the Troubadours aren’t as thumpy as the ever popular Beats By Dre, but the bass is satisfying, well-controlled, and goes low enough to please almost anyone except the extreme low-frequency junkies.
The gold-plated 3.5mm headphone jack encased in matching wood and 1.2 meter long y-cable gives you plenty of flexibility to plug into your favorite audio sources. The inline microphone, with its simple single-button control, allows you to take phone calls or Skype chats while listening to your tunes. The adjustable metal headband is edged with a low-profile yet soft cushioning to provide a perfect fit. Weighing just 6.6 ounces, these headphones provide plenty of comfort for hours of listening. They’re remarkably lighter than many other on- and over-ear headphones that we use around the Grand St. office, and this only adds to the comfort factor.
We’re offering the Troubadours in four colors: Ebony, Cherry, Beech, and the Limited Edition Zebra Wood (exclusive to Grand St.). Also, sparing no detail, each pair of headphones comes with a canvas drawstring carrying pouch.
Why We Love It
The Troubadour headphones are uncompromising in so many ways. Aesthetically, they are beautiful and distinct, yet they’re also full of features that provide you with both great sound and the convenient ability to answer calls. They are made responsibly and built to last from worthwhile materials that would have otherwise been wastefully discarded.
Beyond the well-crafted nature of these headphones, it’s the social mission of LSTN that really blows us away. It just seems like a natural (and purely good) thing to translate a portion of the proceeds from each sale into money that helps others regain the gift of hearing. A portion of each headphone purchase goes to the Starkey Hearing Foundation, an organization committed to providing 100,000 hearing aids a year to those with damaged hearing.
Much like the famous Troubadour music venue in LSTN’s native Los Angeles (where countless musical talents got their big break), we like to think that this very spirit is built into each and every pair of Troubadour headphones. Buy a pair of headphones, give someone the gift of hearing. Beauty, quality, and doing good… it's all music to our ears.
