Why We Love It
As if one of our personal favorites couldn't get any better, it just has. With the release of the new Bosavi bike mount (included for free with the purchase of a Bosavi on Grand St.), now you can bring this ultra-bright, trusty little light with you on all your two-wheeled adventures. To attach the bike mount, use the included zip ties to cinch it to your handlebars. Two non-slip pads on the underside prevent the light from sliding out of place and protect your handlebars from scratching. Slide Bosavi into the mount’s grooves and you’re set. If you also use Bosavi (and it’s red blinking mode) as a tail light, the curvature of the bike mount even allows for affixing to your seatpost.
Bosavi is the brainchild of Dan Freschl, a climber who’s drawn from his years of experience developing batteries for pacemakers, defibrillators, and electric vehicles. Bosavi’s custom Lithium polymer battery provides over 60 hours of light on the low setting and 8 hours on the high brightness 50 lumen setting. And the extremely bright 110 lumen 1-minute boost mode makes it one of the brightest headlamps on the market. Because it doesn’t use disposable batteries, you can truly explore without leaving a trace, leaving a smaller eco footprint, and saving money in the long run.
Within the Bosavi’s minimal but stylishly designed enclosure is an incredibly smart computer chip. It allows you to monitor the battery charge with a click of a button and program lighting modes. Under the hood it’s also incredibly efficient, giving you more hours to explore the outdoors. The central hinge gives you the flexibility to direct the light beam and has the added benefit of distributing the light’s weight for added comfort. And for when you’re travelling, the Bosavi has a smart lock button (behind the hinge) that disables the power button so you don’t accidentally turn it on while packing up your gear for your weekend trip.
You can choose between multiple LED modes in different conditions, including white light, red light (which provides illumination at night that’s gentle on the eyes), low/high brightness spot light, strobe safety light, and a high intensity 110 lumen boost light mode. Simply double click the top button to activate the boost mode, and you’ll get 1 minute of extremely bright light that will slowly fade back to the normal mode. In practice this is very useful because you may occasionally need that quick boost, but will rarely need prolonged bright light. And with the slow fade, your eyes adjust so that the change in light intensity is barely noticeable. It’s the perfect balance of illumination when you need it with battery efficiency - something that can only be done through extensive testing.
The Bosavi’s modular design allows it to be mounted to almost anything. Beyond the light itself, Bosavi’s packaging isn’t just some disposable box: It actually folds up into a beautiful origami lantern that sits perfectly on the headlamp, making it a perfect addition to any after-dark powwow. It also means nothing goes to waste. Rest at ease knowing that the Bosavi will help you contribute to a sustainable environment.

Why We Love It
Bosavi is the perfect intersection of technology, adventure, and smart design. Inhabitat said (and we agree): “[it’s] a tribute to what is achievable in the realm of DIY manufacturing.” It is the result of a true subject-matter expert tackling a personal pain point and building something that in his/her mind is the perfect product. Dan Freschl is both a battery engineer and an avid climber. He knew what to build because he is both producer and power user, and his expertise really shines through with the Bosavi.
Craig's been using the Bosavi bike mount over the past few days and had this to say: “In an attempt to take advantage of bike-perfect fall weather, I’ve been riding to and from work. As the sun sets earlier and earlier, the evening commute in the darkness can be tricky. I love that the mount allows you to take advantage of Bosavi’s pivot feature, so you can aim it down at the ground in front of your tire to spot and avoid nasty potholes, but can also point it straight ahead to increase your visibility to cars ahead of you. Or, attach this versatile mount to your seatpost and adjust the angle of the Bosavi to serve as your tail light. Thanks to the contoured back of the Bosavi, you could even strap the headlamp to your helmet - to the front as a light, or to the back in combination with the blinking red mode.”
Bosavi allows you to stay active long after the sun goes down. Whether you’re hiking, running, cycling, hanging out, or just reading a book, Bosavi will brighten your experience. Bosavi was with us throughout our summer fun, proving itself to be a worthy companion. Now that the heat is dissipating, we can’t wait to venture out on some fall foliage hikes and rides and Bosavi along for all.
